STATE MINISTER FOR THE MINISTRY OF LIVESTOCK, FORESTRY AND RANGE, FGS
Dr. Suleyban Ali Hussein is a Somali politician and public health professional currently serving as a Member of the Somali Federal Parliament (2022–2027) and the State Minister for the Ministry of Livestock. He has a strong background in government leadership, having previously served as the Head of the Private Health Sector Department within the Somaliland Ministry of Health Development from 2018 to 2021. His career began in the humanitarian sector, working with several international NGOs across Somalia as a frontline health worker.
In the field of education, Dr. Suleyban has contributed significantly to pharmacy training and academic development. He taught at Edna Adan University from 2017 to 2022 in the Pharmacy Department and has also held teaching roles at Alpha University and Golis University in Hargeisa. His passion for pharmaceutical development also led him to serve as a pharmaceutical consultant in Hargeisa and to co-found the Somali Drug Abuse Prevention Action, a national initiative focused on raising awareness and preventing drug abuse.
Dr. Suleyban’s pharmaceutical career includes international experience at BOCH Pharmaceutical Company in Pakistan (2014–2015), where he gained practical insight into pharmaceutical manufacturing and distribution. He holds a Doctor of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences degree from the University of Karachi, and is a licensed pharmacist under the Pharmacy Council of Sindh, Pakistan. In addition, he has earned a Master’s degree in Clinical Pharmacology, as well as postgraduate diplomas in Health Management and Leadership, Monitoring and Evaluation, Security Studies, and Law (2024, Somali National University).
Over the years, Dr. Suleyban has completed numerous certifications in project management, supply chain management, report writing, and data analysis. He has attended and presented at several high-level workshops, seminars, and international conferences, particularly in pharmacology, diabetes awareness, and public health leadership. His contributions reflect a deep commitment to advancing Somalia’s healthcare system, strengthening governance, and improving public wellbeing.
